Apostille, Notary & Legalization Services in Kenya – Simple Guide by WKA Advocates

Need to use your Kenyan documents abroad? Whether it’s for school, work, marriage, immigration, or business, you’ll often be asked to prove those documents are official and genuine.

That’s where notarization, legalization, and apostille services come in.

At WKA Advocates, we help clients in Kenya and the diaspora make sure their documents are legally accepted in foreign countries — quickly, professionally, and affordably.

What’s the Difference Between Notarization, Legalization, and Apostille?

Here’s a simple breakdown:

✅ Notarization

This is done by a Notary Public in Kenya. It confirms:

  • The document is real

  • You are the one signing it

  • You understand what you’re signing

Why it matters: Most foreign embassies won’t accept a document unless it’s notarized first.

✅ Legalization

After notarization, your document goes to:

  1. Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA)

  2. The embassy or consulate of the country where you’ll use the document

This proves your document is valid and official for use outside Kenya.

📝 Example: To use a Kenyan degree certificate in the UAE, it must first be notarized, then legalized by both the MFA and the UAE Embassy.

✅ Apostille

An apostille is a type of international stamp that simplifies legalization. But here’s the catch:

⚠️ Kenya is not yet part of the Apostille Convention, so full legalization (via MFA and the embassy) is still required.

Once Kenya joins, WKA Advocates will offer official apostille services for faster processing.

When Do You Need These Services?

You may need notarization and legalization if you’re:

  • Applying to study abroad

  • Starting a new job overseas

  • Getting married in another country
