By ensuring you have all the necessary documents and professional guidance, we can help make your remote work experience in Kenya smooth and hassle-free.

Whether you’re considering Kenya as a destination for work or leisure, it is undoubtedly an excellent choice. Reach out to WKA Advocates today, and let us assist you with the legal aspects of living and working in this dynamic country.

In today’s rapidly evolving work culture, remote work has become a viable option for individuals across the globe. With advancements in technology, coupled with the growing interest in digital nomadism, finding the right destination to base your work operations is more important than ever. Kenya stands out as an excellent option, and at WKA Advocates, we help individuals and businesses navigate the legal processes, including obtaining work permits. Specifically, the Class N Work Permit in Kenya has become a popular choice for many remote workers. Here’s why Kenya should be your next remote work destination, and how to obtain a Class N Work Permit.

Why Kenya?

1. Dynamic Work Environment

Kenya’s thriving economy, particularly in Nairobi, offers a robust infrastructure for remote workers. Known as “Silicon Savannah,” Nairobi has become a hub for technology and innovation, attracting startups and multinational corporations alike. Whether you’re working in IT, digital marketing, or any other industry, Kenya’s professional ecosystem supports your work needs.

2. Cost-Effective Living

Compared to many Western countries, Kenya offers affordable living costs. Rent, food, and transportation are relatively cheaper, which means you can maintain a comfortable lifestyle without breaking the bank. Plus, the country has a variety of accommodation options, from modern apartments in urban centers to more relaxed, nature-surrounded retreats.

3. Connectivity and Tech Infrastructure

Kenya is known for its excellent mobile network and internet coverage. Nairobi, in particular, has numerous co-working spaces with reliable internet and modern amenities. The government’s efforts to improve digital connectivity in both urban and rural areas make Kenya an ideal destination for remote work.

4. Cultural Diversity and Beautiful Landscapes

Kenya is home to a rich mix of cultures, traditions, and languages. Whether you are in the bustling streets of Nairobi or enjoying the peaceful coastal vibes of Mombasa, Kenya offers a vibrant culture that makes your stay even more enjoyable. Additionally, Kenya is famous for its wildlife, stunning beaches, and picturesque landscapes, providing ample opportunities for recreation outside of work.

5. Global Connectivity and Travel Hub

Nairobi is strategically located as a gateway to the rest of East Africa. With easy access to countries like Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Ethiopia, traveling for business or leisure is simple. The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) serves as one of the busiest hubs in Africa, making Kenya accessible from all corners of the world.

Class N Work Permit: How to Work Legally in Kenya

To work remotely in Kenya, obtaining a Class N Work Permit is essential. This permit allows foreign nationals to legally engage in employment, online consultancy, or business activities while residing in the country.

    • Addressed to the Director General of Immigration Services, stating the nature of employment or business, location, and duration of stay

  5. Signed cover letter from the employer/company/organization

    • Also addressed to the Director General of Immigration Services

  6. Bank statements or payslips for the last three (3) months

    • To prove stable monthly income

  7. Proof of accommodation

    • Hotel reservation, lease, or rental agreement

  8. Letter of No Objection

    • From the local embassy of your home country

  9. Company details (if applicable):

    • Contact person: Name, job title, telephone, and email

💵 Official Fees for the Class N Work Permit

  • Processing Fee: USD 200 (one-time)

  • Issuance Fee (2 years): USD 1,000 per year

Note: For East African residents (citizens of Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo), the official fees are waived, making the process more accessible.

🧾 Application Tips

  • All documents should be clearly scanned and submitted in acceptable formats (PDF or JPEG).
